Exca-chan is a mascot character for Excalibur LARP and Costume Store. Her aim is to advertise products, events, and the store itself. Below is her entire design process.

Exca-chan needed to be more than just a pretty character showing off the shops products. She needed to be able to connect with the customers and become familiar with them because the shop is a huge part of the local LARP community. Three concepts were drafted to display different aspects of LARP and Excalibur.

After deliberating the options, the adventurer theme was chosen among the three.

The knight came to mind because of the shop's name, but knights could be seen as a symbol of authority, which clashed with the freedom expressed in LARPing. The fighter showcased LARP's combat aspects, but it lacked the roleplay and exploration aspects essential to LARPing.

The adventurer, however, had no glaring issues. It perfectly embodied LARP's spirit of exploration, roleplay, and outdoor activity. It also gave a very inviting aura to customers, enticing them to join in on the fun. The next step was to decide on what kind of adventurer she was exactly.

The character Exca-chan would be was the airheaded adventurer, but with the merchants cape instead of the coat. The cape matched with the shop's products more than the coat and it gave a more fantasy feel as well. She would also have a ponytail hairstyle to show her outdoorsy and active nature.

It was decided that the other concepts would be used as completely separate characters to compliment Exca-chan. The merchant with the glasses would be a money-loving saleswoman, and Exca-chan would be her regular. She would always be there to sell her wares no matter how far her customer had traveled.

The chronicler would inherit the riding hoods timid and clumsy personality. She would fangirl over adventurers as she writes down their tales of heroism in her book. She would also play the role of a uniformed quest giver.

The next step is to finalize the look of Exca-chan.
